If you were purchasing a bong then you would probably run into some legal issues as the main usage for a bong is marijuana. The laws for bongs are unclear and usually you will have to refer to it as a water pipe in order to get service at a head shop. However if you’re purchasing a vaporizer things are a little different.
Laws
There are no laws saying that you cannot purchase, sell, or possess a vaporizer. If you’re going to purchase a vaporizer it could be for tobacco use or other reasons so there is no way to assume you are using it for illegal activities. As long as you don’t refer to the item as a marijuana vaporizer there will be no issues

The law is definitely unclear in many areas and has a lot of holes that needs fixed. If a police officer shows up at your door and you let him in and notices (or can see in plain sight) any marijuana related products, even rolling papers in some cases, then that may be sufficient reason to search your home without a warrant. It’s unknown whether or not a vaporizer in plain sight would be enough reason for a police officer to search your home without permission but it’s best to keep it out of sight and know your rights as well.
